The Group was formed in 1984 as the Lakes Line Action Group and since then, we have been working to improve and promote this important line, the only line which runs into the central Lake District. We are the official voice for passengers using the line and the junction station at Oxenholme.

We have regular contacts with Network Rail (owners of the line itself), Northern (the trading name of Arriva Rail North, who run the trains to Windermere) and Virgin Trains (the operator of the West Coast Main Line trains from London and Birmingham to Scotland) and TransPennine Express (Manchester - Scotland services) over timetable questions, facilities and connexions at stations

We promote the line as an integral part of the public transport network of the area.

Previous notable successes include:

Raising £15000 locally as the community contribution to the new Windermere station;

Contributing £1000 to the new station at Kendal;

Providing the floral displays at Windermere station (in association with Windermere Town Council and TransPennine Express);

Working with local businesses and public authorities to celebrate the line's 140th and 150th anniversaries;
